For anyone that is a sniper always here's the insulting "In paintball, there is no thing as a sniper". I'm going to try and set it straight and prove that the community of paintball snipers exist and are thriving. The primary thing in the real world military that sets a sniper apart from the guy with a scoped rifle (designated marksman) is field craft and the gillie suite that provides highly effective concealment. I will say that shooting from a concealed area is a gray area with it but real snipers can hide in an open area concealed by the gillie suit. The web dog radio radio episode was decent yet didn't go that deep into what being a paintball sniper is about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soe-fbP17VY

Paintball snipers by nature need to have a major seance on endurance especially if your an extreme sniper if an actual gillie suite. Filed craft is the use of a gillie suite and being able to use natural vegetation in the gillie suite to enhance concealment wile creeping with in range of their target. Snipers do mostly provide real time recon but when called upon, they wreak havoc on the enemy but picking off commanders and key personnel or random terror tactics such as picking off enemy troops at random. It is a major psychological impact to see your friend shot right in front of you regardless if it's in paintball or actual combat.

I hope this has been informative and would like to hear your opinions.

sniping in paintball is like wiping before you poop. It just doesnt make sense. Grin (just messin with you)

I really dont see how a sniper has a place in paintball. We are shooting at each other from 200 feet and closer and paintballs bounce like crazy so one shot rarely does it. If you have a person within range of the other team and can easily shoot out one selected person then why would you not shoot them all?

I agree. Im not even going to get into this discussion, ive got into to many times before, just know that I laugh at the fact of a "sniper" in paintball. Now, there are effective "marksmans" or "sharpshooters" that know their marker and know who they can hit from what distance..etc...(I.E. Cowboy) but the term "sniper" in paintball makes me lol

Would be nice, but with everyone's gun having the same range you can't truly be a "sniper." You can use sniper tactics, you can ambush people with Ghille  on, and you can limit how much you shoot, but that doesn't make you a "sniper." What makes a sniper a sniper is the ability to take some one out from a mile away with no one ever knowing where you were. A sniper could wait days for the perfect kill shot. In paintball by the time you shoot everyone knows where you're at because of the close ranges. So again I say you may use some sniper tactics, but that don't make you a sniper. I wear cleats and through a football from time to time and that doesn't make me a NFL Quarterback. I drive my car fast from time to time on the interstate, but that doesn't make me a nascar driver. Doing a few things someone else does does not make you something you aren't. Being a sniper takes years of intense military training, hard work, and sacrifice. Not putting on a leaf suit and laying on the ground for 5-10 mins and shooting someone in the back as they walk by.

Oh come on!  The Steelers could use a new QB.  "The center snaps the ball to number 0, Varnel, and he's sacked and fumbles!!!"

Seriously, you summed it up right there.  You don't have any more range than anyone else and sitting in a bush with a ghillie on doesn't make you a sniper.

Not trying to be mean by any means, and sorry if I come off that way, but I just don't see why this is still the huge issue that it is today. Scopes and Ghillie don't make a sniper.

Really, what happened to just playing the game?  Why do people need titles?  I'm a paintballer.  I happen to prefer playing with nothing but a pistol.  You are a paintballer that might happen to prefer long-range engagement and more stealth.  You don't need a title to play that way and you don't need the approval of others to play that way.  The majority of these "Snipers do exist!" posts I've seen are nothing but a thinly veiled lack of self confidence.  Just play.

I have to agree with Jackson, there really is no need for titles in the game...just players! Some are aggressive, some are defensive, and others are more reserved! Its just depends on your style of play, but that doesn't give you a title like "sniper!" We are all players in the same game...PAINTBALL!

Every one has to start some were. Not every body can be the same position either. Can you imagin if every one was a face mower? It just would not be fair.

Did anyone forget the first strike rounds that can go out further range? I know, I forgot to mention that part but I will say that ghillie dose set a standard for those that fell they do what is considered sniper and/ or sniper like. If your going against a guy with a marker that shoots the first strike round and all you have is standard paintballs, then your all but dead in that respect lol

Even with first strick rounds I say no. Usually paintball players dont stand out in the open so they are usually in a bunker or some kind so the likely hood of you hitting some one @ 300 feet whos pack is sticking out 2 inch is pretty slim. And it may be diffrent where you play but here in WV/PA the woods are to thick to have a clear shot at some one at that range.
