The Pointman is probably one of the most risky and unwanted jobs in Paintball. He is the man who runs point for a squad, and is ahead of the pack. He draws fire from ambushers, and has the easiest time with getting hit, and the hardest with gettings hits. He must have hairpin reactions, Great eye sight, and the ability to take a hit or two for the team.

Pointman isn't for the faint of heart. He poses the most for his squad, so he can keep them pushing. If you want to run pointman, here are a few tips.

1: Don't be jumpy. It will make you more nervous and make it easier to give your position away. Silent, swift, fluid movements should be used when running point. You never know when paint will start flying, so be ready for it, but don't think that twig twitching in the corner of your eye will shoot you.

2: Be aware of all availible points of Cover. When your running point, its most likely your the 1st target to be aimed at, so you need to know whats where in your field of vision. Your not only scanning for targets, but if you get shot at, you need to know the best places of cover so you can duck and run. Anything that is useful, such as large tree-s, man made cover, even bushes for temporary placements will be well suited until you can gain vantage on your enemy.

3: Travel light. You will be asked to go threw some rough terrain, and scout out first, so your movements must be quick, especially when your shot at. It's best to have good mobility, and let your team make it up with their own firepower.

4: Know what you're doing. Leading your squad into the fray is one thing, but knowing where the fray is is another. Be aware of your objective, and know how to do it. If you need to get somewhere, know where you need to go in advance, and if you can, have a mapout of the area so you know what places to avoid and tactical vantage points. This will allow you to get a better position and a drop on your enemies of an ambush happens. It will also prevent you from walking into ambush-prone areas.
