As the title says post up what your play style is. Are you more of an in your face player or do you stay back and lay the paint?

I'll get us started off here.

I tend to stay back for the first 5 mins of the game and let all the crazy stuff go down. Then I take a look around and see what has unfolded during the game and decide where my services are most needed. I then have a couple people lay me some cover fire and I move up with our front guys. I then continue to work up as needed. So I guess in a nut shell I tend to see how the mission develops, find a weakness, and then exploit it. It tends to work very well for the team and I! Also tends to catch a lot of people off guard as they think they have seen the worst of the fight and then out of no where them team and I coming rolling over them.

Don't get me wrong though, if the mission requires quick action to get to a target I am more than willing to get the job done. I just prefer to find the most oportune point of the field and take advantage of it.  Cool

Well, like Varnel I like to wait back for a few minutes, see whats happening and then bust right in on the party. But if I don't wait around I'll normally run right off the start and take to the flank and then come in from the side when I am needed, whether it be giving a distratcion to the enemy for others to move up, or move up and try to eliminate some to move up further and get to the objective. Most of the time I end up in or near the frontlines helping some teammates and right along side of them.

After watching the video from Eragon, we noticed that if you keep Dean in one place for too long he looks like a lab rat trying to get out of a cage lol

Yea I noticed that too lol. When I am in one place I run back and forth around that small area. Literally, like, in one spot for a second then in another 10 yards away the next, then to another, then back to the first spot lol.

Hysterical...

I am still trying to find my preferred play style.  I thought I wanted to be a dedicated back/defense player, but at the last few games I found I really enjoy attacking as well.  I am not fast enough to be way out front though.  I do prefer to hook up with someone else and move as a team.  I find that I am much more effective that way.  Oh ya, I also really like to grab the SP-1 and just hammer down...if only my wallet was big enough to afford 2 cases of paint a game. So I guess what I am saying is I am like a lost puppy trying to find a home....does anyone want a puppy?

Sun, you always got my back man....at Ghost Recon you sacraficed yourself for me and at Jungle Strike you were right with me when we attacked the Fuel Depo. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'll take a puppy anyday...if he bites as hard as you do!

My old style...wait, let me rephrase...my old style PRIOR to AVP was to hang back and let things fall where they may for the first five, maybe seven minutes. But I usually found myself out of the primary action and too far back to make any kind of an advance because the other side had already taken up key positions, making it difficult to advance.

At AVP, my style was in your face to the max. In three of the seven missions I played in, I was shot out once within the first five minute insertion limit; in one mission, I was shot out twice within that time limit and still managed to reinsert. I think the key is taking field positions first so your team can score the objective. Taking out their side as they advance means they have to run back and reinsert as well, so I didn't mind having to run back myself because my job was already done if my team continued to move. Usually, by the time I reinserted, there was still enough chaos going on to allow me to advance quicker and easier than if I hung back.

I guess my style shifts depending on the situation and type of game it is (three teams changes how things work on the field for sure). Cuda typically gets shot out early in missions, I've noticed, but that's only because he feels compelled to advance by himself. I, on the other hand, would feel much better advancing with even a squad of two or three. The more running, shooting targets you create for the opposition, the more chaos you create and your chances of taking field position increases. I'm criticizing Dean's style only in that he is usually alone when he goes running and shooting into a position - I witnessed this myself several times at AVP and 10 times out of 10 he was shot out and alone, with many welts suffered as a result and no one to back him up or help him score the objective.

Now, F.E.A.R., I witnessed you guys move in a four-five man rush on the Alien Queen Lair trying to score that dummy. If I hadn't been in that 4-way bunker, hidden, you would've had no trouble rushing our lines and scoring (you scored it anyway after I was shot out). But I had to use all of my paint and expose myself to shoot your whole group, so the strategy of rushing as a unit rather than a solo player, to me, seems a lot more sound.

Hence, why I scream so much to try to get guys to rush with me. Usually works. Smiley

And this quote from Hellions Tactical Paintball Manual:

Quote
With the exception of an ambush or defensive position, you rarely wait for the enemy to come to you; instead, you seek out the enemy. In order to do that, you must move either individually or as a unit to the enemy's position. While it is easier to move alone, there is generally very little strategic value in breaking up an effective combat force into individual units. A cohesive force is much more effective when operating together.

I might as well chime in. My play style usually shifts several times throughout the day. Ill go from being a "sniper" to a runner...then back. Its wierd..but it works for me. As you can tell from the AVP Helmet Cam..at least for mission 2 (the first one) I was hanging back alot giving our runners cover fire to move up...and still taking out a bunch of OpFor. Dont get me wrong, I love to be in the fire sometimes..but others I tend to me more reserved and pick people off from a distance.

BT, at RE if we play on the same side, we're running together.  I've become a more in-your-face player this year.

My play style used to be a hang back and wait it out style.  But now I've got a few different methods.  It really depends on the marker I'm carrying and the mission.

If the mission is going to be a big firefight, and I'm carrying a semi, I'm going to be up front, maybe a bit off to the flank.  Like BT said, it really helps to get those key positions early and then make you advance from there.

If one of the objectives is far and needs a runner, I'm your man.  I've never been out-paced by anyone in a MM game when I'm pushing myself.  I run light, I have long legs, I just move quick.

When I'm playing pump, I just can't afford to get into a big fight alone.  If I know I have people with me, I'll go on the front lines (the loud Short Barrel scares the noobs).  If I don't have people to rely on, I'm going to work the flanks.

Any way I play, I'm not a spray and pray guy.  If I can't hit you with a few shots, I'm moving closer or getting a better angle.  I'm not one to lay cover fire for half the team, you lay it for me.

Yea, I must say I found myself being much more aggresive than normal at AVP. With the one barrel tag and the countless people I bunkered in the tower in mission one I had a lot of fun! The new play style keep up throughout the whole day. I dunno if was the 3 team format or what, but I had the most fun I've ever had playing paintball during the AVP event. I am gonna try the new style out at RE and see what happens, but I will tell you this F.E.A.R will be wolf packing again for sure! When we moved as one huge force, instead of individually, we got stuff done!
