BT, at RE if we play on the same side, we're running together.  I've become a more in-your-face player this year.

My play style used to be a hang back and wait it out style.  But now I've got a few different methods.  It really depends on the marker I'm carrying and the mission.

If the mission is going to be a big firefight, and I'm carrying a semi, I'm going to be up front, maybe a bit off to the flank.  Like BT said, it really helps to get those key positions early and then make you advance from there.

If one of the objectives is far and needs a runner, I'm your man.  I've never been out-paced by anyone in a MM game when I'm pushing myself.  I run light, I have long legs, I just move quick.

When I'm playing pump, I just can't afford to get into a big fight alone.  If I know I have people with me, I'll go on the front lines (the loud Short Barrel scares the noobs).  If I don't have people to rely on, I'm going to work the flanks.

Any way I play, I'm not a spray and pray guy.  If I can't hit you with a few shots, I'm moving closer or getting a better angle.  I'm not one to lay cover fire for half the team, you lay it for me.

Oh yeah dude, we'll run together, no problem. Smiley You've definitely been more aggressive this year and it's pretty cool. Sure, you can't lay cover fire, but that's where my marker comes in handy and I don't mind laying cover fire to advance the team. That will work well, I think. The two-man stick-and-move strategy is pretty tried and true; the military uses that tool, so it's gotta be good for paintball. Even if you have an 8-person team, splitting up into two-man cover groups is key for advancing EVERYONE to the front and I think that tactic would work marvels if followed.

What I would do is literally assign two-man groups - Varnel and Enhander, Tanix and Mamba, Jackson and BT, etc. Now, even though we're all moving as a single unit, the breakdown is all based on two-man movements and covering for the other groups in the area. That way, if Jackson and I would hit resistance, the other group nearby would have our backs and visa versa. Dunno, maybe I'm just rambling, but I see a real strategy brewing coming out of this AVP game.

Humm you know I never really thought about it like that. I always thought in terms of either moving alone or one big group. I think you might be onto something here with the 2 man group covering system, as you are still essentially one big group just a little more spread out and it would be almost impossiable to pin the whole group down. As you said if one gets held up the other 3 or 4 groups could flank out and the pinned group would be freed up in no time at all.

That would also prevent one man from eliminating half the force as you did at the tower BT. I know when we hit that tower I thought we were golden. Then out of no where you pop up and I see 4 or 5 hands raise up. I tried to drop to cover but ended up catching one shortly after in the head...now if we were broken up into 2 or 3 man teams we could of been spread out on all sides of the tower instead of all hitting just the one side at the same time. We could of either A) forced you out of hidding earlier and hit you before you hit us or B) had you eliminate or pin down one group and still had the other groups there to work up and get the job done.

Very good points, Varnel. The ONLY reason I was able to take that many out was because of something I call the "Bunching Factor". The more you bunch up, the easier it is to hose you all down. Smiley I will draw some diagrams of what I'm talking about and there are ways to practice this, but if, for example, a 6-member team breaks up into 3 smaller 2-person groups or "units", each responsible for a section of field, you now have all the zones covered. You're only watching YOUR area of the field as a two-man crew, covering and moving from spot to spot up the field.

Unit = two member squad

Of course, essential to this is communication because if one unit hits resistance, the other two units need to stop their movements so as to not get so far ahead, and perhaps will even need to tighten up or change direction to assist their team. The middle unit would have the most difficult job, as they would have to cover both of the flank/fringe units (again, using the 6-man team example - one unit left, one right, and one middle), but you could work it out where one of the middle guys watches left, the other right, while watching each other as you move from cover to cover.

I think it would be a cool system of covering and moving. But yeah, if you would've been split up and bumping, my fire would've been forced to draw on only ONE set of two and you would've had me dead bang. Even if one of your guys gets taken out, there's five left and the lone member could join up with another two-man group, making a three-man stick and move crew.

Diagrams of my ideas would help, so I'll see what I can do.
