My old style...wait, let me rephrase...my old style PRIOR to AVP was to hang back and let things fall where they may for the first five, maybe seven minutes. But I usually found myself out of the primary action and too far back to make any kind of an advance because the other side had already taken up key positions, making it difficult to advance.
At AVP, my style was in your face to the max. In three of the seven missions I played in, I was shot out once within the first five minute insertion limit; in one mission, I was shot out twice within that time limit and still managed to reinsert. I think the key is taking field positions first so your team can score the objective. Taking out their side as they advance means they have to run back and reinsert as well, so I didn't mind having to run back myself because my job was already done if my team continued to move. Usually, by the time I reinserted, there was still enough chaos going on to allow me to advance quicker and easier than if I hung back.
I guess my style shifts depending on the situation and type of game it is (three teams changes how things work on the field for sure). Cuda typically gets shot out early in missions, I've noticed, but that's only because he feels compelled to advance by himself. I, on the other hand, would feel much better advancing with even a squad of two or three. The more running, shooting targets you create for the opposition, the more chaos you create and your chances of taking field position increases. I'm criticizing Dean's style
only in that he is usually alone when he goes running and shooting into a position - I witnessed this myself several times at AVP and 10 times out of 10 he was shot out and alone, with many welts suffered as a result and no one to back him up or help him score the objective.
Now, F.E.A.R., I witnessed you guys move in a four-five man rush on the Alien Queen Lair trying to score that dummy. If I hadn't been in that 4-way bunker, hidden, you would've had no trouble rushing our lines and scoring (you scored it anyway after I was shot out). But I had to use all of my paint and expose myself to shoot your whole group, so the strategy of rushing as a unit rather than a solo player, to me, seems a lot more sound.
Hence, why I scream so much to try to get guys to rush with me. Usually works.

And this quote from Hellions Tactical Paintball Manual:
With the exception of an ambush or defensive position, you rarely wait for the enemy to come to you; instead, you seek out the enemy. In order to do that, you must move either individually or as a unit to the enemy's position. While it is easier to move alone, there is generally very little strategic value in breaking up an effective combat force into individual units. A cohesive force is much more effective when operating together.
