The first thing that comes to mind is a shot pt spring, but first things first: is it level 7 or level 10? Let me know and we'll go from there.

Ok, well, assuming that it does indeed shoot (and chrono), and that the problems are in the cycle, here are a couple things to look at first:
-check/replace the PT (Powertube) spring/spacer (spacers are preferred - they don't wear out) -check/replace the PT o-ring (not the one on the tip) -check the edges of the bolt and the sear to ensure that neither is worn -check the strength of the mainspring - if you remove the valve and set it down on a table on the spring end, it should barely compress, and the bolt should definitely not touch the table.
Also - mags love lube, so feel free to be generous with the oil.
it may sound scary and complicated, but Automags are really very simple, with very few moving parts and o-rings. I feel strongly that your problem is one of the items above, but if you can rule them all out, the next step would be to look at the on/off.

Synthetic air tool oil would work great; and it's cheap and easily accessible.

Would him having a red spring in cause any problems with a lvl7? I ran a silver spring when I had my classic and it worked fine..dunno if that would make a difference.

I couldn't say - I've never tried those level 10 springs in a level 7 valve. I'd try to get my hands on a gold spring.
