This is just a little something from my years of experience playing Outlaw, Woods and Mil-Sim as it regards the mask and communications gear.

Paintball has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. The markers and the gear have evolved with each year and pushing the limits of design and function. Gear has also gotten a lot better from the latest pod packs to paintball specific modular gear for Mil-Sim. However the masks are still basic with the exception of thermal lens's and better fog resistance.

For us Mil-Sim players, we get our hands on radios and other communications gear. classic boom mic's are good but can be uncomfortable under a mask. Throat mics are a nice thing yet they can be hard to work with if not done right. It's my idea that a communication set up built into the mask as a modular system is the best way to go in evolving the most vital piece of gear on the player. The idea is an option that allows the player to use any radio on the market from the most basic talk-about to the latest military style on the market. Yet the option to remove it for the speedball arena is their for those who like to play both.

ideas, thoughts?

It is not in production anymore, but you may be able to find a couple new/used on eBay or some pb sites used.

I had a Proteus about a decade ago.  I remember the advertising gimmicks that it was designed to better let acoustics in and out of the mask, even having directional ear-holes, but I don't remember anything about it attaching radio bits.  I also remember my chin sticking out and selling the mask.

Don't know anything about the Angel Eyes other than having seen the pics and knowing that there are people who pre-ordered theirs like a year and a half ago and the mask still hasn't come out.

As for radios, if you really need to use one, is it that hard to just clip the mic to something, like maybe the bottom of your mask?

I know that my problem with mics when I used them during the big games is the earpiece.  They annyo the heck out of me and are uncomfortable in my opinion.

I can see the use of something that is built into the side of mask, in terms of a mic I have never had a problem with that.

Riddler, I tried to attatch a boom mic head set to my mask and it was essective to a point. I'm just saying that the idea is sound and should be tried again with a mask that is proven. I can also say that JT had a pretty good point with it but the mask itself wasn't effective were the chin sticks out. Thanks for the link Shots Smiley
