So I have been in the market for the past month or two for a mech Autococker. I've been looking at some guns that interest me but I don't know a whole lot about cockers. Anyone have any info or tips for buying a cocker? Such as what to look out for and what to stay away from when buying a cocker?
All help is greatly appreciatated.
Right now I found a pretty nice REFLEX Cocker that looks pretty nice but am not sure yet.
I'm doing some looking around on the internet and reading reviews and stuff.
Help?  Grin

oh hi!  i have... umm... 5... at the moment.

they're fun guns; a pleasure to shoot.  a lot of history, too.  many little machine shops put their heart and soul into custom 'cockers in the 90's/early 2000's.  these guns have a special place in my heart.  they're from my favorite era in paintball and have a certain magic that modern markers can't replicate.

what did you wanna know?

and what kind of reflex? i believe dye and kapp both made a gun with that name, and boston paintball had a reflex trigger kit for 'cockers that made them RT.

its a KAPP Reflex. It looks really nice. Roughly if I want a decent autococker what can I expect to pay? And if I wanted to upgrade it or anything to improve performance what would be first to do? Which mech cockers are better to shoot. Which ones should I stay away from? These things  Cool lol. Thanks Adam! If you want to talk more about this on Saturday I would like that too  Wink.

Or better yet. What do you think I should know about them before I buy one?

If they aren't broke don't fix them Smiley

If you want a decent one I have a special place in my heart for the AKA Merlin's ... however those are more top of the line cockers, but you can find them at a decent price if you look enough.

AUTOCOCKERS!

KAPP Reflexes are among the newest (and last) private label 'cockers, if I recall correctly.  I am picturing a swoopy-milled body, probably centerfeed, and probably with a hinge.  Are these the bodies that had double Cooper-T detents?  (edit: google says yes, my memory has not failed me)

The beauty of 'cockers is that they're available in all kinds of different shapes, sizes and configurations.  I'm sure that KAPP gun you're considering would be a nice enough jumping off point... You'll have a handle on your personal preference in no time.

Yeah I think the Lapp would be nice to start out with. I also found nice looking gold. Freeflow too. Do you know anything about Freeflow cocker's?

The majority of them are excellent markers, milled well and put together with good quality parts.  Towards the end, Ethan started sourcing his bodies from asia... Particularly the Lotus.  I've seen some issues with those.

on a related note:
I think technically my '97 black w/ silver splash 'cocker could be called a Freeflow... Somebody else with a near-identical gun did some research and discovered that his was from the very, very early Freeflow days, and Ethan essentially built it in his basement.  With mine, many of the parts are from P&P (which was a custom shop in Detroit), and I believe Cesare at P&P even milled the body, so I'm just as happy calling it a P&P gun.
